We are seeking an Aerospace Propulsion Engineer to help us meet the challenges of hypersonic flight. As a member of our team, you 'll contribute to multiple projects supporting the US Department of Defense and the warfighter. You will have the opportunity to apply groundbreaking modeling techniques to design and analyze the next generation hypersonic propulsion systems. You will be called on to rapidly determine the cause and solutions for hypersonic test programs when problems arise. As an APL Aerospace Propulsion Engineer...

  • You will work with research partners and academic institutions to transition their state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics tools and techniques to practical applications for our Government sponsors.
  • You will provide technical contributions and leadership in the development of hypersonic air-breathing propulsion in the relevant areas of design, analysis, modeling and simulation, integration, test, and evaluation.
  • You will create high-fidelity computational meshes on complex vehicles and conduct full-vehicle tip-to-tail (internal and external) computational analyses.
  • You will regularly collaborate with Government sponsors, industry partners, and key Laboratory program and technical staff on activities related to the development and analysis of propulsion systems.
  • You will detail your work, including writing technical reports and delivering oral presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • You will lead and mentor engineering design teams.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Have at least 5 years experience in air-breathing propulsion flowpath design and analysis using high-fidelity CFD methods.
  • Have experience with Linux HPC systems and skills in scripting and programming.
  • Have a record of publication and accomplishments of successful technical work related to propulsion systems.
  • Have demonstrated leadership roles and experience mentoring with excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Have high initiative, motivation, flexibility, and interest in working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Have deep technical knowledge of: hypersonic weapon systems and design methods creating and conducting LES simulations with combustion working with and modifying MPI and/or GPU codes and tools.
  • Have experience with industry standard CFD tools including: CFD++, GridPro, Pointwise, Tecplot, Solidworks, Matlab, Python, and Cantera.
  • Have an active Top Secret clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
