Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Product Safety Engineer for the Propeller Systems business unit to coordinate its Propulsion Systems Product Safety Review Board (PSRB). You will guide teams in managing potential safety issues, identify and approve safety parts and safety characteristics on propeller systems products. You are a strong team and individual performer proficient at solving technical issues and leading interdisciplinary teams. In addition, you will coordinate with the Product Safety Team from Propeller Systems in Figeac, France on new issue identification, classification and elevation to the PSRB as needed

What You Will Do

  • Guide individuals and teams through the potential safety issue investigation and risk management process
  • Support risk analyses, acting as liaison between Propeller Systems and the Collins Product Safety Office and the Advanced Structures Product Safety Manager.
  • Lead the weekly combined US and France based PSRB, presenting safety issues monthly to the Propeller Systems Product Safety Board (PSB) as well as the Advanced Structures PSB, and furthering the safety culture within Propeller Systems.
  • Ensure all activities are performed in an export compliant manner.
  • Assist with safety issue tracking and management including guiding product engineers through the management process with the safety board. Pre-review and coordinate author updates for all PSRB presentations. Finalize safety board meeting records with support of an administrative assistant. Perform action tracking and manage owner follow through. Research technical issue histories to put new field events in accurate context for the Propeller Systems organization and prepare and present issue summaries and management proposals for executive and customer forums such as the Advanced Structures PSB. Submit presentations and issue management decisions and supporting files on time to meet applicable safety issue process clocks.
  • Review and approve engineering part change requests for safety part and safety characteristic changes.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from the Advanced Structures PSM and the PSO using support from other propeller systems team members when needed.
  • Manage and approve inputs to the COPS safety part database.
  • Perform updates to PSO safety issue tracking tools.
  • Coordinate management of External Investigations, including time critical communications to management and provide standard work guidance to Collins investigation teams.
  • Support work of a risk analyst and perform independent risk analyses per FAA Continued Airworthiness Assessment Methodology (CAAM).
  • Communicate and present technical finding with senior level leadership
  • Travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
  • Perform other duties as required

What You Must Have

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and typically a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here:
  • 3 years of experience with a Product Safety Program
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and methodologies

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
