We are looking for a talented Functional Safety Product Advisor to join our team specializing in Engineering in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Problem Resolution : Investigate and resolve electronic application and systems issues, ensuring smooth operation and minimal downtime.
Process Improvement : Develop and enhance electronic application and systems development processes, contributing to more efficient and effective workflows.
Quality Decisions : Gather input from various stakeholders to provide recommendations that lead to high-quality product decisions.
Design and Calibration : Make critical decisions in electronic and electrical system design, calibration, and testing, directly impacting the performance and quality of subsystems.
Mentorship : Review the work of less-experienced developers and testers, ensuring robust and efficient designs while coaching and developing future technical experts.
Leadership : Lead problem resolution for complex systems with significant business impact, demonstrating strong leadership and decision-making skills.
Process Development : Drive the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions and business units, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Team Coordination : Coordinate and direct technical project teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring successful project outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
Technical Expertise : Develop a deep understanding of mechatronics systems, including electronic hardware and interconnections, to effectively measure and control systems within Cummins' products.
Integration Skills : Combine various parts or sub-systems to achieve optimal performance, reliability, cost, and quality. Utilize Cummins' standard tools, processes, and best practices for machine integration and optimization.
Modeling and Simulation : Use computational tools and methods to predict and analyze product functions, impacting design decisions at the system, sub-system, and component levels.
Problem-Solving Abilities : Implement robust, data-driven solutions to product problems, identify root causes, and recommend actions to prevent recurrence, ensuring customer protection.
Requirements Engineering : Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, and track requirements throughout the system lifecycle. Assess the impact of changes on project scope, schedule, and resources.
Systems Thinking : Define and analyze the system of interest, understand its context and interactions, and use appropriate methods and models to predict behavior and devise modifications for desired outcomes.
Communication and Networking : Build effective relationships inside and outside the organization, and develop multi-mode communications that address the unique needs of different audiences.
Innovation and Decision-Making : Cultivate new and better ways for the organization to succeed, make timely and quality decisions, manage ambiguity and complexity, and continuously optimize work processes.

Control Systems : Specify and configure software features for open/closed loop controls, ensuring proper interaction between mechanical, hydraulic, chemical, and electronic systems to achieve desired states.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
Additional Responsibilities:
Be Cummins recognized hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA) expert which includes coaching and supporting the creation of BU HARAs
Create and improve functional safety training plan and training modules
Participate as independent reviewer in functional safety confirmation reviews
Attend and support functional safety compliance through forums such as ECAR and C-reviews
Participate in functional safety related industry groups that will benefit Cummins
Please note that the salary range provided is a good faither estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience where appropriate.
