Reporting to the Sales and Applications Manager of Advanced Technology Motion Systems, the Applications Engineering Technician is responsible for providing technical support to customers including developing welding procedures; internal and external customer training on in-depth operation of mechanized welding systems; supports technical evaluations of equipment and software to determine product suitability and readiness to market. The position requires domestic and international travel to corporate, customer manufacturing facilities and other various sites. General cleanliness and organization of the welding and engineering labs is essential to provide a safe and effective working environment. This position requires an understanding of core welding concepts and the ability to fabricate test fixtures, perform manual and mechanized welding functions within the primary arc welding processes. In addition, this position must communicate effectively the welding performance of equipment to experienced non-welding departments such as Engineering, Machine Shop, Production. This is not a production welding position; tasks are directly related to supporting the customer base, sales field and engineering with application specific development and training to grow sales.
Job ResponsibilitiesResponsible for a full range of activities which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the Engineering and Sales Department; through development of welding procedures, demonstrations and training, including but are not limited to:
- Set-up of systems as received from production.
- Develop welding procedures within defined constraints.
- Document all work in an organized manner that enables others to reproduce the same results.
- Assist the Applications Manager with technical report writing to present results.
- Effectively train customers in the use of mechanized welding systems.
- Travel to customer sites both domestically and internationally to perform demonstrations and customer training.
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment by conveying firsthand information to the service department and engineering.
- Use diagnostic PC tools to ensure optimal welding performance.
- Maintain the welding lab area in a clean, safe and organized manner, clearly labeling areas and items.
- Communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels within the organization, externally with current and potential customers as well as industry professionals.
- Ability to learn and adjust to the rapid pace of the department, equipment, and new technologies.
- Associates degree in Welding Technology discipline preferred or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Two (2) or more years of previous experience in the associated fields.
- Previous welding experience is required; knowledge of automated welding is preferred.
- Willing to travel 40-60%, domestic and international, must possess or be eligible to obtain a passport.
