COWI is a pacesetter in sustainability as we move away from fossil fuel projects. Our vision is 'Together, we shape a sustainable and livable world'. Join us on the journey and be part of making a positive difference to communities for generations to come.

Create the solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
To support our North American team, we are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join us. You will be working on exciting infrastructure projects across the Bridge, Marine, and Tunnel market sectors, along with our highly professional team that provides technical expertise, design leadership, project management, and specialized engineering expertise.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Collaborate and work cross-functionally with engineers and project managers in the analysis and design of foundations for bridges, marine structures, and underground large infrastructure.
  • Perform 2-D or 3-D soil-structure interaction analysis, geotechnical analysis, and dynamic analysis using advanced finite element software, and perform geotechnical/structural design.
  • Perform the design and analysis of deep foundations using industry standard software (i.e. Apile, Lpile, Group, GRLWEAP, etc.) and provide input to structural team members.
  • Perform the design and analysis of shallow foundations including bearing capacity and determining settlement (i.e. elastic and consolidation settlement).
  • Analyze/design earth retaining structures and perform slope stability analyses using SlopeW or similar software.
  • Prepare design deliverable documents, provide geotechnical design recommendations, follow quality control procedures in the preparation of calculations, design drawings, and specifications.
  • Implement design best practices in areas of expertise, in addition, to ensuring conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Visit the project site as required by the project (10 percent of job responsibilities may take place out of the office).

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will:

  • Hold an M.S. or higher degree in Civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering from a US accredited university or college focusing on the design of foundations, along with 4+years' experience working as a geotechnical engineer.
  • Possess a Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) or can obtain the same within 12 months of employment.
  • Be familiar with US standards and codes (IBC, AASHTO, API, FHWA, NAVFAC, USACE manuals, etc.)
  • Be experienced in soil-structure interaction analysis and preparing and checking engineering designs and calculations for deep foundations for bridges, and/or marine structure, etc.
  • Have experience with finite element software such as PLAXIS 2D and 3D and/or FLAC.
  • Be able to interface with other technical disciplines (structural engineers, environmental specialists, BIM, CADD, etc.)
