Job Description


Overview

The Staff Engineer completes independent reviews of development proposals and capital improvement program projects. This is accomplished by reviewing site plans, plats, construction plans, and other technical documents or reports and data; managing or coordinating private land development projects, capital improvement program projects, and any assigned special projects or tasks; preparing or reviewing cost estimates; preparing, reviewing, and managing bid documents; and coordinating projects with other departments, technical professionals, staff, and outside agencies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating existing processes and procedures to identify areas that need optimization.
  • Assessing the efficiency of technologies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Building, setting up, and improving systems, procedures, and equipment.
  • Utilizing software to perform efficient planning, designing, and development.
  • Projecting the costs and timeframes of projects, as well as creating work schedules and setting deadlines.
  • Performing quality control and resolving structural design and other issues throughout the implementation stages.
  • Collecting and interpreting analytical and performance data, as well as preparing progress reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Keeping abreast of developments and innovation in the area of specialization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field of specialization preferred.
  • PE license preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a staff engineer in a similar environment.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering and project management software.
  • Experience with plan review.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering processes, structural design, and system optimization.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to apply safety standards and adhere to industry regulations.
